Message to cooltiger
I can't believe it's already 7 years since we met. (And a year since I returned to Tokyo.) Hopefully cooltiger will continue onwards and upwards. To quote a jazz song from the 80s, the glide is in the ride...

I have the memorable my first guest here today. He is not only my mentor but also good friend.

May I have your name?
Andrew Pothecary.

Where you are from?
London.

What you do for living?
Graphic designer, mainly print.

What interests you besides work?
Clouds. Books. The universe. History. Photography. I studied photography at university and worked as a photographer for a number of years before shifting to design.

You update your photo diary frequent, don't you?
Only weekly. Any more takes too much time (and energy) photographing and not working!

Whatkind of scenaries on street gets your attention?
I'm not a natural street photographer. But I've done a series on the street-side maps in Tokyo which'll be in the UK design magazine "Eye". I'm also assembling grid "mosaics" of Tokyo's complicated and messy cityscapes.

Photography and graphic design is close enough to be in the same field. There must be a couple of merits/advantages for you do both.
Usually with graphic design you're presenting someone else's idea as best you can. With photography as a "hobby" you can have a more direct approach. And a simpler one, usually. Knowing photography helps design.

When do you come up with (brilliant) idea?
I have ideas anywhere - not many of them brilliant! I'd love to have a brilliant idea about how to put my ideas into action. I'm not brilliant at that.

Do you have any big plan with your photography coming soon? And which direction you are heading to?
I have a lot of jazz (mostly) photographs from when I was a professional, which, instead of being stored, I hope to exhibit or publish. Next, I want to get back to taking people's portraits.

Thank you very much for today. Would you please let me in your portrait series!?
